Mutton Semi-Gravy: Mutton Masala (Kerala Recipe)

Mutton Masala

If you are not a lover of sour taste in food this is the recipe you are going to like. My husband just loved this dish when I prepared because I didn’t add any tomato in this and there was no sour taste. Check it out if you belong to this category J

 


Mutton Masala Recipe

 Ingredients:

  • Mutton – 500g (cut into medium pieces)
  • Onion – 2 big
  • Fennel seeds (perumjeerakam) – ½  tsp
  • Green Chilli  – 2
  • Ginger  garlic paste – 3 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½  tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Garam masala – 1 ½  tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Oil
  • Salt

To Marinate

  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½  tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Salt

 

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients to marinate. Add little water into it and make it to a paste
  2. Add mutton pieces into it and mix well
  3. Pressure cook it till mutton is cooked. ( I usually wait for 3 whistles)
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add sliced onion, fennel seeds and curry leaves.
  5. Cook with the pan covered and stir in between till onion turns brown in color (take time for this step and make sure onion turns brown in color)
  6.  Add ginger garlic paste, green chilli and cook for 2-3 min.
  7. Add red chilli, turmeric, coriander powder, pepper powder, garam masala, salt and cook for 2-3 min.
  8. Add cooked mutton (all contents of cooker) and mix well.
  9.  Cook with the pan covered in medium flame till oil starts appearing on top. Serve hot
