Crispy Onion Rings

Do you like snacks which are crispy? Any thing which is crispy is my all time favorite. I have seen preparation of Onion rings in couple of cookery channel here. I used to get excited when I see the coating on onion rings. Finally I decided to try it last weekend. As usual the salt became more by mistake and my husband told its good but cant eat because of salt. When I saw my little one eating it I decided to make it again and this time, surely with less salt. My husband has gone to work and my little one to to play school I made an attempt today. I added additional ingredients to make the coating spicy. Little Indian twist to suit our taste 🙂

Crispy Onion Rings Recipe

Ingredients: (Serves 5-6)

  • Onion – 2 (medium sized)
  • All purpose flour – 1 cup
  • Spice/ Garam masala – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Baking powder – ¾ tsp
  • Egg – 1
  • Milk – ¾ cup
  • Bread crumbs – ¾ cup
  • Oil – for frying
  • Salt

(Note: 1 Cup = 250 ml
If you are using maida instead of all purpose flour take 2 Tbsp less and mix it with 2 Tbsp of cornflour
I used Robertsons Chicken Spice. This makes the coating little spicy. You can add your spice of your choice.)

Method: (With Step-by-Step Pictures)

Separate the onion slices into rings and keep it aside.

Mix well all purpose flour, spice, salt and baking powder.
Dip the onion rings in the flour mixture till they are well coated and keep it aside.

Once all the onion rings are covered with flour, to the remaining flour whisk the egg and milk and mix well. (You can add 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste also to make it spicy. The batter should be thick. Vary the amount of milk as required)

Dip the floured onion into the batter and tap on the sides of the bowl to remove the excess batter from onion.

Spread the bread crumbs on a flat plate. Place the rings on it and put bread crumbs on the top of onion rings to coat well.

Deep fry in oil in high flame until its golden brown in color. Serve hot with tomato sauce.
