Crispy Calamari Fry

Have you tried Calamari/Squid Fry? Frankly I was never attracted to it. I always used to take my husband away from the fish section when ever he wants to buy it. Once I bought it and fried it, but never felt any thing great. This time again we bought it as we were forced by a sales man. He only suggested this recipe and about the fish spice. First my husband made it, it was tasty, I made little changes and made it again tasted even better 🙂 . Check it out, you can even have it as a snack.

Calamari/Squid Fry Recipe

Ingredients: (Serves 2-3)

  • Calamari rings – 250g
  • All purpose flour – ¾ cup
  • Fish spice/masala – 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Oil – for frying
  • Salt

To Marinate:

  • Chilli powder – 3/4 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Fish spice/masala – 2 tsp
  • Salt

(Note: I used Robertson’s fish spice.
Vary the amount of chilli as per your spice level
If you are using Maida, mix it with 2 Tbsp of corn flour
1 Cup = 250 ml)

Method: (With Step-by-Step pictures)

Wash the Calamari rings and press it well so as to remove water from it.

Mix all the ingredients to marinate. Add the Calamari rings to it and mix well. Keep it marinated for ½ hr.

In a bowl mix together all-purpose flour, fish spice, chilli powder and salt.

Take the Calamari rings and roll it in this flour mixture

Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the Calamari rings. Fry in high flame and once it starts becoming golden brown in color reduce the flame.

Flip it and fry till the other side also becomes golden brown in color

Remove it from oil and drain excess oil in a paper towel. Serve hot.
