Chicken Olathiyathu Recipe
Ingredients: (serves 6-7)
- Chicken – 1Kg (chicken breasts preferred, cut into small pieces)
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Fennel seeds – ½ tsp
- Onion – 2 medium
- Green Chilli – 3-4
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 Tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 Tbsp
- Garam masala – ½ Tbsp
- Sliced coconut pieces (thengakothu) – ¾ cup
- Vinegar – 1 Tbsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Oil
- Salt
To Marinate
- Chilli powder – ½ Tbsp
- Coriander powder – 2 Tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 Tbsp
- Vinegar – 1 ½ Tbsp
- Salt
(Note: 1 Cup = 250ml
Vary the amount of chilli as per your spice level
Method: (With Step-by-Step Pictures)
Wash chicken and cut into small pieces.
Take all ingredients to marinate. Mix it well with chicken pieces so that its marinated well
Pressure cook marinated chicken (No need to add water. When the whistle is about to come, immediately remove cooker from stove. Chicken should be just cooked at this step. Make sure its not overcooked)
Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
Add fennel seeds, sliced onion and curry leaves and sauté till its soft
Add ginger garlic paste, green chilli and saute for a min or two
Add all spice powder, salt and vinegar and sauté for a min or two
Add coconut pieces and mix well.
Add cooked chicken
Mix well
Cook in medium flame till chicken is completely dry . (Add little oil in between if chicken is sticking to the pan)
Switch off stove once chicken becomes brown in color. Serve hot
