Fish Dry: Pepper Fish (Kerala Recipe)

Pepper Fish

I tried this dish first when we invited my husbands friends for dinner after our wedding. It was appreciated by every one. Here I am sharing it with you.

Pepper Fish Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Fish – 500g without bones, cut into medium pieces
  • Onion – 2 big
  • Black Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – a handful
  • Oil
  • Salt

To Marinate:

  • Black pepper powder – 1 ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Salt

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients to marinate. Add little water into it and make it to a paste.
  2. Add cleaned fish into it and keep it in the fridge for half an hour.
  3. Heat oil in a nonstick pan, put some curry leaves and fry fish until its light brown in colour. Remove it from the pan
  4. To the pan add sliced onion, curry leaves.
  5. When onion turns golden brown in colour add ginger garlic paste, green chilli and cook for 4-5 min.
  6. Add pepper, turmeric, coriander and cook for 4-5 min.
  7. Add fried fish and lemon juice and mix well. Cook covered for 5-6 min. Serve hot.

Tips:

  • Put some curry leaves when you fry fish as it gives good taste and smell.
  • It’s a spicy dish. If u want it to be less spicy reduce the amount of pepper powder.
  • If u feel your dish is becoming too dry when cooking, sprinkle some water and mix again.
  • After putting onion in the nonstick pan, cook with the pan covered as it makes onion golden brown fast.
