Paratiappam

A very simple and healthy dish. It doesn’t require any overnight preparation. I always prepare it when I get up in the morning and realize I didn’t prepare any batter in the night. I got this recipe from my mother in law. I made some changes to the same as per my taste. Here its there for you.

Paratiappam Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Maida – 1 cup
  • Wheat Flour – 1 cup
  • Slice coconut pieces (thengakothu)/Grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Water – 1 ¾  cup
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Oil – for cooking

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients and make it into a smooth paste.
  2. Heat a flat tawa (dosa chatti). Don’t apply any oil on the tawa.
  3. Keep a bowl of water near to the cooking pan. Dip your palm into the bowl of water and then take a handful ( approx 4-5 tbsp) of batter and put on the hot tawa.
  4. Dip your hands again in the water and start to flatten the batter with your palm so that its spread in a circular shape.
  5. Dip your palm in water in-between if you feel batter is sticking to your hands.
  6. Immediately pour 1 tsp of oil on it and smoothen the top of batter poured with a flat spatula.
  7. Draw diagonal lines on the top with the spatula. Cook it till top part becomes dry.
  8.  Flip the paratiappam and cook for another 2-3 min.
  9. Serve hot with chicken curry or fish curry.

Tips:

How to know your tawa is hot enough to pour the batter???? Sprinkle few drops of water on the pan .The water should sizzle and evaporate in 3-4 seconds. Then your tawa is ready.
