Do you know how to cook dried beef/Unakka erachi? In my childhood days my mother used to prepare it for me often, and it tasted awesome. It used to be one of our childhood favorite. When it’s prepared we used to finish it just like that and never wait for lunch or dinner. This time it was husband behind me to prepare it and I recollected how my mother prepared and gave it a try. It was not as great as my mother prepared, but I can say it tasted good. When my brother took it to his hostel he didn’t know how to cook it. My dear brother this is how to cook unakka erachi. Prepare next time and get the real taste of it 🙂

Dried Beef Olathiyathu Recipe


Ingredients: (Serves 2-3)

  • Unakka Erachi – 1 cup
  • Oil – 4 Tbsp
  • Small onion/Shallots – 4
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Dry red chilli – 1
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp

(Note: 1 cup = 250 ml
Vary the amount of chilli as per your spice level)

 

Method: (With Step-by-Step Pictures)

Crush the dried beef to make it thin and make it into small pieces. Was it well and keep it ready.

 


Coarsely crush shallots, green chilli and dry red chilly. Heat oil in a pan and add the same and curry leaves. Saute till onion becomes soft.

Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a min. Add all the spice powder and sauté till oil starts appearing on the sides of pan.

 


Add the dried beef pieces and mix well. Check for salt and add only if required because dried beef have already salt in it.

 

Saute it till beef pieces are cooked well (Add oil only if its sticking to the pan). Serve hot.
