Pal Payasam (Rice Kheer in Cooker, Kerala Recipe)

Pal Payasam

Do you like the taste of milkmaid . If yes then you will just love this payasam. I first tasted this payasam from my mother in law. It was so tasty and tasted like milkmaid. Since I don’t get the rice she used here I decided to make with Basmati rice. Even this also turned out so well. The best part of this recipe is u just need to keep every thing in the cooker, and cook for some time no stirring in between. Only thing you need to take care is you need to take a big size cooker. You can adjust the level of sugar. I basically love sweet dishes a lot so mine will be in little higher side :-)

Pal Payasam Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Milk – 1 Litre
  • Sugar – 2/3 cup
  • Basmati Rice – ¼ cup
  • Cardamom Powder – ¼ tsp
  • Ghee – 5 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts – 3 tbsp

Method:

  • Wash basmati rice and keep it ready
  • Take milk in the cooker and bring it to boil. (I used 4 liter pressure cooker)
  • Now add 2 tbsp ghee, sugar and basmati rice and mix well.

  • Cover the cooker with lid and put the cooker weight.
  • Cook in low flame for 45 min. (Make sure its low flame itself, no whistle should be there)
  • Now remove from stove and open cooker once steam goes completely. (The payasm would be thick and will be peach in color)
  • Add cardamom powder and mix well.

  • Heat remaining ghee in a pan and fry cashew nuts and pour it over the payasam prepared.

      Dear Manju,

We need to put the cooker weight. Then cook in low flame for 45 min. Since we are cooking in low flame chances of whistle is very less. Hope i am clear

      Vimmy :-)
