Onion Poha

Onion Poha

Do you like quick and tasty recipes? I am sure for most the answer is yes. Onion Poha is one which fit into this category for breakfast. I had Poha first during my stay in Mumbai. But I never tried to make it at that time. But when I had it here when one of my husband’s friend made it I just loved it. It so simple and quick to make and the best part is my husband is ready to have it without any curry. Now when I realize there is no curry or gravy I immediately make it. Check it out, its one of the easiest recipe that you can try 🙂

Onion Poha Recipe

Ingredients: (Serves 2-3)

  • Thick Poha – 1 ½ cup
  • Oil – 3 Tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp
  • Peanuts – 3 tbsp
  • Onion – 1
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Sugar – 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves – few
  • Salt

  • Rinse the poha in water and allow it to drain. Do this step just before cooking.

  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Reduce the flame and add peanuts and saute till it turns light golden in color (I prefer it without mustard seeds because of which I didn’t add the same)

  • Add chopped onion, green chilli and curry leaves and sauté till onion is caramelized well and becomes brown in color

  • Add turmeric powder, salt and mix well

  • Add drained poha and sugar and mix well. Cover the pan with lid and cook on low flame for 2- 3 mins

  • Add lemon juice and mix well. Serve hot.
