pappaya stir fry

Papaya/Kappalanga is an easily available fruit at our homes. Ripe papaya fruit can be eaten raw while the raw papaya fruit can be cooked and served as a thoran for the meals. It can be made easily and is very nutritious too.


  • Raw papaya – 1 medium sized
  • Coconut – 2/3 cup
  • Onion – 2
  • Green chili – 3
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • mustard – 1/4 tsp
  • curry leaves
  • salt
  • oil



Method: (With Step-by-step pics)


Take papaya


Remove it skin


Cut it into 2 and remove seeds from inside (if present).


Again cut each piece into two.


Grate all the pieces well.


Slice onion well and slit the green chilies.


 Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.


Add onion,green chili, curry leaves and salt to the pan and saute until it becomes soft. Then add turmeric powder and saute for a minute.


Then add grated papaya and coconut to it and mix well. put it in low flame.


Cover it with lid and stir in between. Do salt test also. It will take about 5 to 10 minutes for cooking. Serve with hot meals:)
