Kappa Vevichath/Kappa Puzhukku Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Tapioca/Kappa – 1kg (after cleaning)
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt

For grinding:

  • Coconut – ¾ Cup
  • Shallots – 5
  • Garlic – 4
  • Green chilli – 3
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Salt – a pinch

For tempering :

  • Mustard – 1tsp
  • Dry red chillies – 3
  • Shallots – 3
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Oil

(Note: 1 Cup = 250 ml)

Method (With Step-by-step pics):

Take tapioca and peel off its skin and put it in water. Wash it thoroughly.

Then cut it into cubes and pour enough water to it. Water level should be above the level of tapioca cubes.

Add salt and turmeric powder. Put it for boiling and cover it with lid. Cook it until it becomes soft. I took 20 minutes for it to become soft (depends on the nature of tapioca). Also I prefer it to be little overcooked so that it becomes super soft. So vary the cooking time as per your taste.

After cooking, drain off the excess water.

Take all ingredients to grind and grind it well.

Then add it to the cooked tapioca.

Then mix it and put it on low flame.

Stir well and cook uncovered for 3-4 minutes.

Then for tempering, heat oil in another pan and crackle mustard seeds. Then add sliced shallots.

When it becomes soft, add curry leaves and dry red chillies. Stir and immediately switch off the flame.

Then pour it over the tapioca prepared.

Mix it and serve hot with nadan meen curry or meen varutharachath.
