Fish Mappas (Meen Mappas Kerala Style))

Ingredients
  • Fish – 500g cut into medium pieces
  • Cardamom – 4
  • Cloves – 3
  • Cinnamon – 1” stick
  • Onion – 2 (finely sliced)
  • Ginger garlic paste – 3 tsp
  • Tomato – 2
  • Green chilli – 3
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Pepper powder – ¾ - 1 tsp
  • Thin coconut milk – 1 ¼ cup
  • Thick coconut milk – ¾ cup
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Oil
  • Salt
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cardamom, cloves and cinnamon and saute for 2 min
  2. Add sliced onion and curry leaves and cook till onion becomes golden brown in color
  3. Add green chilli, ginger garlic paste and cook for 2-3 min.
  4. Add turmeric and pepper powder, salt and cook for 2-3 min.
  5. Add chopped tomato and cook for 2 min
  6. Add thin coconut milk and wait till it starts boiling.
  7. Add fish pieces and cook with the pan covered in low-medium heat till fish is cooked (Swirl the pan in between)
  8. Once fish is cooked add thick coconut milk
  9. Cook for another 4-5 min in low flame. Switch of the stove.
  10. Pour 1 tsp of ghee over the curry prepared. Keep the pan closed for some time and serve hot with Palappam
