Here it is the recipe to make smooth dosa batter at home. It is easy to make and the only thing to note that it requires overnight fermentation..So prepare batter one night before you need.


 

Ingredients:

  • Raw rice (Pachari)  – 1 cup
  • Urad Dal – ¾ cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Cooked rice – 2/3 cup
  • Fenugreek/Uluva – ¼ tsp
  • Salt

 

(Note: 1 Cup = 250 ml)

 

Method (with step by step pics):

 

Wash and soak urid dal and fenugreek together in water for 6 – 8 hours.

 

Similarly wash and soak raw rice also for 6 – 8 hours.

 

Grind urad dal well by adding 1/2 cup of water and then pour it into a bowl. Then grind raw rice along with cooked rice, salt and 1/2 cup of water and then pour it to urad dal batter. During grinding you can add more water if needed. Mix them properly and put it for overnight fermentation.

 

Morning we can see that the dosa batter level has risen. Stir well.

 

Heat a flat pan and grease it with oil. Pour a ladle full of batter to the centre and swirl it in a circular way using the ladle.

 

Cover it with lid for fast cooking. Flip the dosa to other side when the bottom portion reaches light brown colour. As the dosa is thin, the second side of dosa need to put on fire for few seconds only.

 

Serve hot and enjoy with chammathi or potato masala.
